3rd May 2021 WHO held a regular briefing on coronavirus pandemic, who director-general Tedros said that the number of new cases in the past two weeks is more than the total number of cases in the first six months since the outbreak.
More than half of the new cases worldwide last week came from India and Brazil, and many other countries are vulnerable. WHO is providing india with critical equipment, including oxygen machines, laboratory supplies and mobile hospitals, and nursing advice for families who cannot find beds.
Without public health precautions, the outbreaks currently under way in India and Brazil will also occur elsewhere, and vaccines are part of the solution, but not the only way to respond to them, Tandesser stressed.
