The government of the eastern Indian state of Orissa announced on May 2nd local time that the current rate of positive detection of coronavirus in parts of the state is as high as 50%, and in view of the rapid rise in the number of new confirmed cases of coronavirus, the state will implement a 14-day comprehensive blockade from May 5 to May 19 to curb the spread of the pandemic.
The state government’s chief secretary Suresh 2, said the total blockade is mainly to restrict people from going out, but the basic life of the people will not be affected.
Data show that as of the early morning of May 2, in the past 24 hours, Orissa has added 8,015 confirmed cases of coronavirus, a cumulative total of more than 450,000 confirmed cases;
