India’s Haryana state has declared a week-long total blockade

Anil Virgil, health minister of the northern Indian state of Haryana, announced on the afternoon of May 2nd local time that the government had decided to impose a seven-day total blockade from May 3rd in order to stem the spread of the outbreak, following a surge in new confirmed cases of pneumonia in the state.

Earlier, a weekend blockade had been in place in parts of Haryana state since 10 p.m. on 30 April and would end at 5 a.m. on 3 May.

According to data released by India’s Ministry of Health, as of the early morning of May 2, 13,588 new confirmed cases of Coronavirus had been confirmed in Haryana in the past 24 hours, with a cumulative total of more than 500,000 confirmed cases;
