British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been caught in the wind in recent days after his former senior adviser Dominic Cummings revealed a series of “slashes” about him, even triggering an investigation by Britain’s Electoral Commission. On the 2nd local time, it was reported that Johnson had asked Tory donors to pay for his son’s babysitting.
A Tory donor who said he had been asked to pay for the babysitter of Johnson’s youngest son Wilfred said he was unhappy about the need to “wipe his buttocks” for the prime minister’s baby, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing the Sunday Times. Wilfred was reportedly born in April last year, the first child of Johnson and his fiancee, Kelly Simmonds.
In response, the Prime Minister’s Office at 10 Downing Street said in a statement on the same day that Mr Johnson’s “all childcare costs” were self-funded. The Conservatives declined to comment. British Foreign Secretary David Raab said on the same day that he was not aware of the “payment of babysitting fees.”
Cummings’s previous scandals included Mr Johnson’s alleged secret use of political donations from Tory supporters to renovate the prime minister’s mansion, his public reluctance to renew a national blockade at a cabinet meeting at the end of 2020, and a text message with a British businessman who had emigrated promising that the other side would be tax-free if he returned to the UK.
Labour leader Keir Starmer has questioned Mr Johnson about scandals and corruption allegations at previous Prime Minister’s Questions, which Mr Johnson has denied. Reuters reported that Mr. Raab also said on Tuesday that Mr. Johnson was “clear” about the cost of renovating the prime minister’s residence.
