Saudi Defense Ministry spokesman Turki al-Maliki issued a written statement on the afternoon of 27 local time, said the Saudi navy in the morning in the western city of Yambu near the Red Sea waters found a remote control ship carrying explosives, the Saudi Navy in accordance with the rules of engagement to destroy it.
The statement did not say where the remote-controlled boat came from or whether the incident resulted in casualties or damage.
Earlier in the day, a maritime security consulting firm posted on its social platform that it had received unverified reports of an attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea, which the Saudi shipping company later denied.
It was not immediately clear whether the suspected oil tanker attack was linked to the remote-controlled vessel destroyed by the Saudi navy.
