April 26 2021 Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference that 21 cases of the “double Variant” Coronavirus found in India have been detected in Japan. It is reported that the virus may be highly contagious and difficult to immunize.
The Variant strain found in India carries mutations in E484Q and L452R that can lead to immune flight and increased infectiousness, Kyodo News reported Tuesday.
The Variant strain has been found in about 20 countries, including Japan.
Japan’s National Institute of Infectious Diseases has raised the alert level for the strain to “concerned”.
Variant strains found in the UK, found in Brazil and Variant strains found in South Africa, which are currently widely circulated in Tokyo and Osaka, have been designated as “worrying” levels.
