Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that about 100 Egyptian fishermen detained by Eritrea had returned to Cairo on the 25th, local media reported on April 25.
Egypt’s foreign ministry said it had been working for months to secure the early release of the fishermen, and in February, Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry called Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh to demand the early release of the detained Egyptian fishermen.
In January this year, Eritrea detained some 100 Egyptian fishermen in the name of illegal fishing. Over the past few years, Egyptian fishermen have been arrested several times in the waters of neighboring countries such as Sudan, Libya and Tunisia, and Egypt has repeatedly warned people not to enter the waters of other countries without permission to fish.
