14 April China Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a regular press conference. Some reporters asked questions about China’s recent full payment of its 2021 United Nations dues.
In response, Zhao Lijian, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of China’s restoration of its legitimate seat in the United Nations.
China firmly maintains the international system with the United Nations at its core and supports the important role of the United Nations in international affairs. As the largest developing country, the permanent member of the Security Council and the second largest peacekeeping contributor to the United Nations, China has earnestly fulfilled its financial obligations to the United Nations and paid its United Nations contributions in full on April 13 to practice multilateralism with practical actions, reflecting its support for the United Nations.
Finance is the foundation and important pillar of United Nations governance. Payment of contributions in full and on time is the responsibility and obligation of the United Nations Member States.
Zhao Lijian stressed that the great powers should set an example in particular. Multilateralism is done, not blown out.
We urge the relevant countries concerned to pay their contributions to the United Nations in full and unconditionally, ensure the normal work of the United Nations and fulfill its mandate, and fulfill their commitments to multilateralism with practical actions. Source CCTV
