The Ukrainian State News Agency reported on the 10th local time that Ukrainian President Zelensky visited Turkey on the 10th and held a meeting with Turkish President Erdoğan to discuss the situation in eastern Ukraine and bilateral cooperation.
Yermak, director of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said that during the visit, Ukraine and Turkey will hold a meeting of a high-level strategic committee, the main topics of which include defense industry, free trade agreements and tourism cooperation.
Turkish President Erdoğan called for a peaceful dialogue to resolve tensions in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelensky said that Turkey’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity was “extremely important”, and called defense-industrial cooperation the driving force of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Recently, the situation in eastern Ukraine has become tense again. On April 9th, local time, a source from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that according to the Montreux Convention, the United States had notified Turkey in advance through diplomatic channels that two U.S. warships would pass through the Turkish Strait and arrive in the Black Sea on April 14 and April 15, respectively, and stay until May 4 and May 5.
