Officials from Zambezi Province in Namibia, where the locust plague occurred, recently stated that the locust plague has spread throughout the province and the current pest control work is still continuing.
If the disaster cannot be controlled before the rainy season, farmers will not be able to cultivate, which may lead to a food crisis in the province.
Zambezi Province reported on August 12 a locust disaster. The locusts have invaded 400,000 hectares of land and destroyed 5,000 hectares of pasture.
Although the Namibian government has taken measures such as spraying pesticides, the disaster has not been controlled. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture of Namibia stated that a group of
locusts can eat up to 2,500 people a day, seriously endangering agricultural development and food security.
