February 1, European Commission President von der Leyen said that AstraZeneca, a British-Swed joint pharmaceutical company, will increase the delivery of coronavirus vaccine in the European Union by 30%.
AFP reported that AstraZeneca announced last week that it could only deliver a quarter of the originally promised vaccine dose to the EU in the first quarter of this year due to problems at one of the company’s factories in Europe.
However, von der Leyen said on Twitter on January 31 that AstraZeneca now agreed to send an additional 9 million doses of vaccine to the EU and will deliver them one week ahead of schedule.
She also said that AstraZeneca would expand its production in Europe.
