According to Rwanda’s New Era, the Rwandan Ministry of Education announced that from January 18, local time, all primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in the capital Kigali will be closed for two weeks.
For schools outside the capital, teaching activities will continue under the premise of strictly observing pandemic prevention measures.
Recently, the number of confirmed cases, deaths and community transmission of COVID-19 in Rwanda has soared, and the pandemic prevention and control situation is serious.
In particular, the capital Kigali accounts for more than 60% of the country’s confirmed cases. In order to curb the spread of the pandemic, on January 18, local time, the Prime Minister’s Office of Rwanda announced a “lockdown” of the capital Kigali, strictly restricting all travel except basic services.
Elsewhere in the country, although there is no lockdown, the curfew is also advanced from 8 p.m. to 6 p.m. and ends at 4 a.m. the next day.
At the same time, public transportation and cross-regional movement have been banned, and places of worship have been closed.
