January 18th – On the 16th local time, an American woman was arrested near a checkpoint in Washington, D.C. It is reported that the woman pretended to be a “presidential cabinet official” and tried to refuse the police’s request and try to escape from the scene.
According to Fox Channel 13 and NBC News, the arrested woman is Linda Magvin, aged 63. At about 8:45 a.m. on the 16th, when she drove to a presidential inauguration checkpoint in Washington, D.C., she claimed to be a member of the presidential cabinet and showed a round metal.
Washington Television later said that it was actually a “military and police challenge coin” and was used to commemorate the achievements of the military or law enforcement agencies.
According to U.S. media, the woman stopped at the request of checkpoint staff, but when a police officer asked her to show her driver’s license, she tried to escape by car.
Eventually, she was stopped and arrested nearby, and then taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Magvin is currently charged with three charges of impersonating law enforcement officials, disobeying police orders and evading the police.
Coincidentally, on January 15, a man from Virginia was also arrested at a checkpoint in Washington, D.C., where police found at least one gun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his car.
He claimed to have forgotten that the car was carrying weapons. U.S. media pointed out that the situation on the ground has continued to be tense since last week’s riots in the U.S. Capitol.
It is expected that about 25,000 National Guard soldiers will arrive in Washington to guarantee Biden’s inauguration.
