According to a report by Iranian English-language news television “Press TV” on the 12th, Iran’s trade minister Arireza Razm Husseini said that Iran is ready to exchange its own electricity for Pakistani rice.
He said that the launch of this exchange mechanism is waiting for the final decision of the financial authorities in Islamabad.
“In return for electricity exports, we can import rice from Pakistan, and the issue is awaiting a decision of the relevant government departments in Pakistan, including the central bank of the country,” Husseini said Tuesday.
Pakistan’s rice exporters have been urging the government to use barter systems with Iran, which can bypass U.S. sanctions and allow the Pakistani government to settle bills for Iran’s electricity supply, while helping Pakistani rice growers and traders to expand their activities.
