Toronto, December 15 A sailor on the Canadian navy’s frigate Winnipeg is missing. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau told the media in Ottawa on December 15 that the Canadian government would use all available resources to carry out search and rescue.
The Canadian military announced on the 15th that at the time of the incident, the warship, after completing its mission in the Asia-Pacific region, was on its way back, about 500 nautical miles west of San Francisco, California, United States.
The Canadian military said that the details of the matter remained to be determined, but believed that the sailor accidentally fell into the sea in the early morning of the 14th.
Later that day, it was confirmed that she was missing.
Winnipeg turned around and returned along her route, and sent a carrier-borne CH-148 Tornado helicopter to search. The Canadian Air Force, the United States Air Force and the Coast Guard also participated in the search and rescue.
The Canadian military said it would investigate the disappearance of the soldier and had provided the required support to his family.
Winnipeg is a Halifax-class frigate of the Canadian Navy, with about 230 officers and soldiers on board. Its home port is located in Esquimalt on the west coast of Canada.
