December 10th British Sky News reported that British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said that if the EU did not make “significant progress” in the negotiations, this Sunday (13th) would be the “end” of the British-European trade negotiations.
Raab said in an interview with British media that the British government currently regards this as a difficult deadline to decide whether it is still possible to reach a free trade agreement with the EU.
On the evening of the 9th, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President von der Leyen held a three-hour dinner meeting, hoping to break the deadlock in the trade negotiations between the two sides through in-depth communication.
Although the leaders then arranged for their respective chief negotiators to continue negotiations in the coming days, both said that the trade negotiations were “very difficult” and that “major differences still exist between the two sides” and that Sunday (13th) would be the deadline for a decision.
