Kuwait’s parliamentary election results announced, cabinet resigned collectively
Kuwait City, December 6 The results of the 16th Kuwaiti National Assembly election were announced on the 6th. Prime Minister Sabah Khalid submitted his collective resignation of the cabinet to Kuwait’s Emir Nawaf on the same day and obtained approval.
Nawaf asked the cabinet to continue to deal with emergency affairs until a new cabinet was formed. According to the Kuwaiti Constitution, after the promulgation of the election results of the National Assembly, the Kuwaiti Cabinet must resign to the Emir, who then appoints a new Prime Minister to form a new cabinet.
A total of 326 candidates participated in the voting in the 16th National Assembly election held on the 5th. According to the election results released by the Election Information Center on the 6th, 50 parliamentarians were elected, 31 of whom were elected for the first time.
The Kuwaiti National Assembly was established in 1963. It is unicameral and consists of 50 elected members and cabinet ministers for a four-year term.
