In a statement, the Afghan Ministry of Defense said that since the 5th, the security forces have carried out anti-clearance operations in the Dande, Zhelai and Marud areas of Kandahar Province, killing 18 Taliban militants and seizing a large number of mines and other explosives.

According to Amal Muhmand, a military spokesman for Paktika province, a group of Taliban militants gathered in the Urgon area of the province on the 5th to prepare to launch an attack on a local market.
