Italian health experts: Italy’s epidemic is slowing down. We should focus on protecting the elderly and not relaxing.
28th November Italian Ministry of Health and the Institute of Advanced Health held an epidemic briefing to analyze the recent monitoring data.
At the meeting, Brusaffero, president of the Italian Institute of Advanced Health, said that the median age of COVID-19 patients rose to about 48 years old, indicating that more and more elderly people are infected; the average age of death cases is more than 80 years old, so more attention should be paid to protecting the elderly.
Brusifero believes that Italy’s epidemic curve tends to decline and the occupancy of hospital beds is relatively stable, but the number of new deaths remains high and cannot be taken lightly. With the end of the year’s traditional festival and New Year’s holidays approaching, health experts recommend avoiding gatherings and minimizing celebrations.
