New South Wales Governor Gladys Berejiklian said on the 16th local time, from the 17th, the state’s newly upgraded pandemic prevention measures lifted. This means that passengers travelling on public transport in the state are no longer required to wear masks; there is no upper limit on the number of visitors to relatives and friends; and entertainment venues such as dance halls are allowed to move freely.
However, NSW Health said the source of the virus, which had previously triggered a new escalation of pandemic prevention measures, had not yet been identified.
Earlier, a couple in New South Wales were diagnosed with coronavirus, which was identified by virus screening as being an American, although it is not clear how it was contracted.
