According to Angolan media on February 4, after the Coronavirus Vaccine Implementation Plan (COVAX) announced that its first batch of coronavirus vaccines are expected to be sent to Africa from February, WHO urged African countries to accelerate their preparations for receiving the coronavirus vaccine.
“WHO is asking African countries to accelerate the process of receiving vaccines and ultimately determine their own vaccination plans,” said Marchdiso Muti, WHO Regional Director for Africa.
He warned that African countries must have regulatory procedures, cold chain systems and distribution plans for receiving COVID-19 vaccines to ensure that vaccines are safely delivered from ports of arrival to vaccination sites, and that a dose of vaccine cannot be wasted.
At this stage, it is reported that the COVID-19 vaccine implementation plan is expected to distribute about 337 million doses to 145 countries, and the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines to the African region is 90 million.
