December 11 at the WHO’s regular press conference on COVID-19, WHO Director-General Tedros Tedros said that in the past six weeks, the number of COVID-19 deaths worldwide has increased significantly, with most of the new confirmed cases and deaths coming from the Americas and Europe. Europe and the United States are about to usher in traditional holidays, and Tedros Tedros reminds that we must not relax our vigilance during the holidays.
Geneva WHO Director-General Tedros: Holidays are times for people to relax and celebrate, but we must not relax our vigilance against the virus. If you don’t take the right precautions, the celebration will soon turn into mourning. If you live in an area where the virus is densely spread and you need to take all the precautions to keep yourself and others safe, it’s the best gift you can give—health, life, love, joy, and hope.
Turning to the issue of the coronavirus vaccine, Tedros said that 189 countries and economies have now joined the “Coronavirus Vaccine Implementation Plan”, which has obtained nearly one billion doses of vaccines, and WHO is working with the Global Alliance for Vaccine Immunization and UNICEF to jointly evaluate applications for the first batch of vaccines.
