According to a report on April 2 local time on April 2 of Uzbekistan’s financial media, Uzbekistan’s silkworm breeding and silk manufacturing industry has been expanding, and the export value of silk products reached 76.5 million US dollars in 2020, a new high.

Uzbekistan is the third largest producer of silk products in the world, after China and India.

According to the statistic, the export value of silk products from Uzbekistan in 2016 was 21 million U.S. dollars, which increased to 70 million U.S. dollars in 2019.

Statistics also show that Uzbekistan produced 12,400 tons of silkworm cocoons in 2017, and the current output has exceeded 20,000 tons.

This year, with the support of the government, Samarkand Oblast will invest in the construction of seven silk-raising enterprises, mainly producing raw silk and carpets for export, and will create 65,000 jobs.
