December 24th According to an ABC report on the 23rd, Grant Shapps, the British Secretary of State for Transport, announced that all British flights to and from South Africa will be suspended from 9 a.m. local time on the 24th.
“British and Irish citizens, visa holders and permanent residents from South Africa can enter but must be quarantined for ten days; South African citizens will not be allowed to enter the UK to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus,” Shapps tweeted.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock previously confirmed at a press conference that two cases of another mutant novel coronavirus have been found in the UK.
Hancock revealed that the mutant novel coronavirus is consistent with previous discoveries in South Africa and is more transmitted. Both cases of new mutant virus infection are related to the recent trip to South Africa.
