At around 18:00 local time on May 3, the CIA headquarters in northern Virginia was hit by a vehicle, and unidentified people drove the vehicle and tried to drive through the main gate into the CIA headquarters without permission, NBC News reported.
CIA security personnel opened fire on the vehicle after the driver was found to be armed and the warning was ineffective. After an hour or so of stalemate, the driver was shot and wounded by security personnel and taken to a nearby hospital, where the CIA did not issue a statement about vehicles and personnel trying to storm the agency.
The FBI also did not disclose the type of weapon the suspect was carrying or the motive. Law enforcement cordoned off parts of the area to ensure security near CIA headquarters.
