Reuters news on December 12, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated in his opening speech at the climate summit on Saturday that world leaders should declare a “climate emergency” in their own countries to stimulate action and avoid Catastrophic global warming.

Guterres said that the economic recovery plan launched after the Coronavirus pandemic represented an opportunity to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future, but he warned that this was not fast enough.

Guterres said: “So far, G20 members have spent 50% more on fossil fuel production and consumption related sectors in their stimulus and rescue plans than on low-carbon energy, which is unacceptable.

From The trillions of dollars needed to recover from the pandemic are the money we borrowed from future generations.
