May 18th 2021 Missouri has seen a surge in new cases since the fall of 2020, and many patients have been taken to the state’s Moberly Regional Medical Center for treatment, CNN reported Wednesday. The hospital has now filed a lawsuit against more than 600 patients who owe medical bills. At the same time, a major U.S. hospital chain filed 19,000 lawsuits against patients on the same grounds.

According to a CNN analysis of court records, Mobley Regional Medical Center sued more than 600 patients, including robin Burr, a part-time nurse at the hospital, over medical arrears during the outbreak. Mobley Regional Medical Center asked Burr in May 2020 for $9,281 in medical expenses, which the latter said she spent on first aid from food poisoning a few years ago. In late 2020, after a judge ruled in favor of the hospital, the hospital began withholding a portion of Burr’s salary of about $850 a month.

Burr also said she and her husband contracted the Coronavirus in the summer of 2020 and are struggling to pay for their medical bills every month. “I tried to talk to the lawyers and tell them I couldn’t pay the fee at all, but it didn’t work. This huge bill bothers me, it makes me feel stressed and distressed. ”

U.S. media also mentioned that the U.S. CHS company’s hospital is one of the largest chain hospitals in the United States. Since March 2020, the hospital has filed at least 19,000 lawsuits against patients who failed to pay for coronavirus. The hospitals cost as little as $201 and $162,000 to take patients to court. They call the lawsuit a last resort.
