Steven Brandenburg, the pharmacist involved in the case, confessed his motives and the course of committing the crime after being arrested by the police.
He told police that he deliberately destroyed the 57 bottles (about 500 doses) of the vaccine because he was “concerned that the vaccine would change people’s DNA”. At present, the prosecution has not decided on the specific charges against him.
According to the Associated Press, the pharmacist involved deliberately took the vaccines out of the refrigerator on the night of December 24, 2020, put them back the next day, and then repeated these actions the next night.
On December 26, 2020, another pharmacist found an unrefrigerated vaccine bottle outside the refrigerator and immediately reported to his superiors, so that Stephen Brandenburg’s behavior was exposed.
Stephen earlier also said that his move was unconscious and that the vaccine bottles were removed so that he could put other items in the refrigerator.
It is reported that because Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine can remain unchanged for 12 hours except for refrigeration, Aurora Medical Center still used some of the vaccines placed outside the refrigerator to vaccinate 57 people, and then discarded the rest of the vaccines.
The police pointed out that the value of the discarded vaccine is about $8,000-11,000 US dollars.
Stephen, 46, has been identified by the police as a conspiracy theorist. He himself believes that the world is “collapsed” and admits that he is “worried that the vaccine will change people’s DNA and harm the body”, so he deliberately destroyed the 57 bottles (about 500 doses) of the vaccine.
Adam Gerol, the prosecutor of Ozoki County, Wisconsin, said that Stephen was currently in divorce from his wife, so his mood was unstable, which was also confirmed by his colleagues, who had twice brought a gun to work.
At present, Judge Paul Malloy has agreed to bail Stephen, but he must pay $10,000 on bail, and also have to hand over the gun and proof of not working in a health care institution, and cannot cooperate with the personnel of Aurora Medical Center. Workers are in contact again.
