January 12 – Two Indian farmers camping at the protest site died on the 11th. They both participated in the protest near Tikri between New Delhi and Haryana.
According to the Times of India, 60-year-old farmer Jagdish Singh, who is from Punjab, died of cardiac arrest.
Another 50-year-old farmer, Harpind Singh, also from Punjab, returned home after suffering from a cold at the protest site.
He was then taken to a local private hospital, where he died.
Since November 2020, more than 30 agricultural organizations in India have gathered near the Indian capital New Delhi to protest against the Modi government’s amendment of agricultural-related laws.
At present, there are still a large number of protests against farmers camping outside New Delhi. They say that if these laws cannot be repealed, they will drive tractors to march in Delhi on Republic Day on January 26.
