Twenty crew members are missing after a cargo ship ran aground in the Philippines

by YCPress

On 20 April, the Philippines Coast Guard stated that on 19 April, at about 1538 hours, the coast guard received a report that a cargo ship carrying nickel and diesel oil had run aground off the coast near the village of Kantapoi in North Surigao Province and that 20 crew members on board were missing.

The coast guard immediately launched a search and rescue operation and tested the diesel for a leak. However, due to poor sea conditions and poor visibility, search and rescue operations were suspended at 7.30 pm on the 19th. Sea police have issued a navigational notice in the hope that passing vessels will be able to find the missing crew members.
