December 31, 2020, local time, U.S. President Trump announced that the immigration and work visa ban would be extended for three months, so that the ban will continue to take effect after Biden takes office.
Trump said that the entry of foreign labor into the domestic market harms the fundamental interests of the United States, and the visa ban protects domestic workers.
The visa ban, originally introduced in April 2020, was announced in June, through December 31, to prevent foreign workers from obtaining immigration status through employment relationships, and thus does not apply to spouses and children of U.S. citizens.
Biden has said he will overturn Trump’s immigration policy, but he has not said that he will lift the visa ban.
