December 20 the representative office of the United Nations Environment Programme in China and other agencies released the Chinese version of the report of Global Environment Outlook 6.
The report calls for urgent cross-sectoral policy action to mobilize the whole society to address sustainable development challenges.
This report is an important medical examination of the earth. It focuses on the theme of “Earth health, human health” and systematically examines the seriously damaged global ecological environment.
The report shows that the overall global environmental situation is deteriorating. The report analyzes current ecological challenges such as climate change, air pollution, biodiversity loss, marine plastic pollution, land degradation and so on.
The report points out that current environmental policies alone are not enough to meet these challenges, and urgent cross-sectoral policy action is needed to mobilize the whole society to meet sustainable development challenges.
The report calls on all countries to completely abandon unsustainable production and consumption patterns and actively engage in international cooperation to achieve sustainable development goals and other internationally agreed environmental goals.
Zhao Yingmin, Vice Minister of Ecological Environment, said in a video speech that the release of the Chinese version of the report coincides with an important node in the compilation of China’s “14th Five-Year Plan” outline, which will play a reference role in China’s planning and implementation of climate change and ecological environment protection.
He said that China will share its experience and practices with other countries, enhance South-South cooperation, work together to promote the green and low-carbon transformation, and promote the achievement of the sustainable development goals by 2030.
