The Pentagon said on Tuesday that the U.S. State Department has approved the sale of potential projects for Apache helicopters and Patriot missile system spare parts to Kuwait, two deals worth about $4.2 billion, the Pentagon said on December 30.
The U.S. Defense and Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), which manages the arms sales project, said that the Kuwaiti government requested the purchase of eight AH-64E “Longbow-Apache” attack helicopters and upgraded its existing 16 AH-64D “Longbow-Apache” attack helicopters to the AH-64E configuration.
The cost of selling helicopters and related equipment is estimated at $4 billion. The Pentagon also approved the sale of spare parts and training for its upgraded Patriot missile defense system in another transaction, at an estimated cost of $200 million.
