February 23 According to the report of the Greek European Union News Agency quoted by the European Network, the Temple of Olympia Zeus in Athens, Greece, is recently undergoing renovation, which is the most difficult and most important renovation project in the Greek capital in recent years.
It is reported that in early February, engineers of the Ministry of Culture had set up protective scaffolding around the first column at the western end of the temple of Zeus, and the remaining 16 columns will continue to complete this step.
According to preliminary estimates, by April, about nine columns of scaffolding will be completed, which is very important for the next maintenance work.
Along the length of the whole column, archaeologists and engineers are trying to comprehensively analyze and solve the serious problems of the structure of the building.
The Athenian Council of Antiquities said that the temple of Zeus had suffered serious damage in the past centuries, so it must be repaired and maintained.
Minister of Culture Menzoni described it as a project facing many difficulties and problems during his recent inspection of the restoration of the ruins.
According to the introduction, the construction of the Temple of Zeus in Olympia began in the 6th century BC, and it was not finally completed until the 2nd century A.D., about 638 years after its construction began.
During the Roman period, the temple with 104 huge columns was praised as the largest temple in Greece. However, the temple was not brilliant for a long time. The barbarian invasion in 267 A.D. looted the temple, so it was abandoned just a century after it was built.
Since then, the temple may have not been restored and reduced to ruins.
In the centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire, it was widely mined as a building material to meet the construction needs of construction in other parts of the city.
