December 21, a large seafood market in Shambushakong Prefecture, central Thailand, has infected 689 people by the 20th. The Thai government is organizing more than 10,000 people to test for the novel coronavirus.
The first confirmed case in this seafood market was a shrimp seller, 67 years old, who was diagnosed on the 17th. The government immediately organized isolation and testing. The Department of Disease Control and Control of the Ministry of Health of Thailand said on the 19th that 548 new confirmed cases in Thailand in a single day, of which 516 were related to the seafood market, most of which were asymptomatic.
The vast majority of COVID-19 infections in the seafood market are foreign workers, most of which come from neighboring Myanmar. Shamusakong Prefecture is about 34 kilometers away from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.
Thailand’s Coronavirus Management Center said on the 20th that the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus related to the seafood market has reached 689, including two new cases in Bangkok.
Tavisin Visanuyotin, spokesman of the Epidemic Management Center, said at a press conference on the same day that the government intends to complete the COVID-19 testing of about 10,300 people in Samusakon Province and several nearby provinces by the 23rd.
