The Russian Northern Fleet said that Algeria was the first foreign port to be stationed by the Russian army during the ocean cruise.
Russian ships are also expected to visit ports in some Mediterranean countries.
The Northern Fleet said that the visit to Algeria would continue until January 20, and the ships would supply fresh water and food.
