January 27th local time, the plenary session of the Russian Federation Council (Upper House of Parliament) passed a bill to extend the Russian-American Treaty on New Strategic Arms Reduction.
The bill provides for the extension of the treaty until February 5, 2026. Earlier that day, the Russian State Duma (the lower house of the parliament) passed the bill.
On the evening of the 26th, Russian President Putin and US President Biden talked on the phone, and the leaders of Russia and the United States reached an agreement on the extension of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty on the telephone.
Putin then submitted a draft law to the Russian State Duma to extend the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
