Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israeli-Palestinian Affairs Hadi Amr in the West Bank city of Ramallah on May 17, local time, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Abbas called on the U.S. government to make efforts to pressure the Israeli government to stop Israeli military strikes on the Gaza Strip and to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian issue through political means in accordance with relevant U.N. resolutions.
Abbas said at the talks that the Palestinians are willing to work with the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia to achieve a lasting peace in Palestine, to guarantee the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence.
