According to the Russian Sputnik News Agency on March 27, Colombia’s Defense Minister Diego Molano said that a terrorist attack occurred in the city of Corinto, Cauca Province, southwest of the country, on the afternoon of the 26th, and the number of injured has risen to 43.
Earlier reports said that the car bomb explosion occurred near the city of Corinto, injuring 19 people, 6 of whom were seriously injured. The explosion also damaged eight buildings. Morano said that FARC had claimed responsibility for the incident.
According to Xinhua News Agency, preliminary investigation by local police showed that the explosion may be related to the former FARC rebels, most of whom were public officials of the Corinto municipal government.
The largest anti-government armed group in Colombia, the National Liberation Army, the former “Kerwu” rebels and other anti-government armed forces, have many activities in the mountainous areas of Cauca Province, which has an impact on local security. In September 2017, “Gerwu” officially announced that it would abandon military force and enter politics and established a political party “Volksal Revolutionary Alternative Force”.
