January 26th – OnĀ January 24th, a reporter from the US media CBS posted a photo on Twitter, saying that the outside lights of the Washington Monument were not lit.
Photos show that in addition to the red aviation warning lights on the top, the whole building is in darkness. He wrote in surprise, “It’s creepy!”
Normally, the Washington Monument is lit all night.
In addition, not long after the inauguration ceremony of the new president, the monument inexplicably turned off, which triggered various speculations from netizens.
The National Park Service subsequently tweeted to confirm that the exterior lights of the monument were not on, and said that it was investigating and would recover as soon as possible.
The next day (25th), the U.S. National Park Service tweeted again and released the results of the survey.
The tweet said that the monument turned off because the timer on the light was broken, and manual operation will be carried out every night in the future.
It is understood that the Washington Monument is 169 meters high and is built in memory of George Washington, the father of the United States.
It is located due south of the White House and in the center of the National Square.
Completed in 1884, the monument is one of the most famous monuments and landmarks in the United States.
