December 25th local time, New South Wales Governor Belgicrian announced that as of 20:00 on the 24th, nearly 70,000 people in the state had been tested for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and seven new confirmed cases of locally transmitted COVID-19, four of which were related to community infection in the northern beach area of Sydney.
Three other cases are still under investigation. As some confirmed cases of the North Beach community have been to the Sydney city and other places, health departments are worried about the possibility of outbreaks in the city.
Due to the shopping customs after the 26th holiday, Belgicrian called on people to restrict their activities and not go shopping in areas such as the CBD. She also said the government has communicated with businesses to ensure that social distancing restrictions are strictly enforced.
Previously, Belgicrian had confirmed that Sydney’s New Year’s fireworks show would continue, but she appealed to people to watch it at home.
The scale of this year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks show has been reduced, only seven minutes of fireworks are set off at 24:00 on December 31, and people are not allowed to gather at the scene to watch.
