The government of Mozambique plans to purchase 6 million vaccines against COVID-19.

Mozambique’s health minister Amindo Thiago said on the 4th that the Mozambique government plans to purchase 6 million COVID-19 vaccines to cover 20% of the country’s population.

Thiago said that the government is delineating the priority population for vaccination and developing vaccination programs.

He said that Mozambique has joined the “COVID-19 vaccine implementation plan” and submitted specific vaccine needs to the mechanism. Mozambique has a total population of 30 million.

As of the 4th, the country has reported a total of 16,038 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and cured 14,160 cases.
