May 1, Muhammad Ali, a former commander of the crashed submarine KRI Nanggala-402, shared his experience on the Indonesian navy submarine, Indonesian media reported. He said the crew was not easy to deal with in cases of power outages (total power outages) and ocean currents (underwater waves).
Muhammad Ali said: “The claim that the submarine is overloaded is completely unfounded, and (the person who said it) may be inexperienced.” We’ve been sailing for years and there’s never been any problem. Therefore, it would be very inappropriate, very wrong and groundless to declare it overloaded. ”
He said that KRI Nanggala-402 operations usually carry 50 crew members. In some cases, a special forces unit was added, with approximately seven personnel, for a total of approximately 57 personnel.
Muhammad Ali added that at the time of the tragedy, there were only 53 people on board the KRI Nanggala submarine in the northern waters of Bali. In addition, at the time of the incident, the submarine was carrying only three torpedoes (one weighing about 2 tons).
