According to a Reuters report on January 21, in response to the arrest of Russian opposition leader Navalny, EU lawmakers are expected to support a resolution on Thursday requiring the EU to stop the construction of the remaining “North Stream 2” natural gas pipeline (This project will transport Russian natural gas to Europe).
Navalny was detained after arriving in Moscow over the weekend and was subsequently imprisoned on suspicion of violating parole regulations.
This was the first time Navalny flew back to Russia after being “nervously poisoned.”
Members of the European Parliament will vote on the resolution at 15:30 GMT, calling on the EU to review relations with Russia based on the arrest of Navariny.
It is expected that the resolution will be passed.
