According to the data released by the National Institute for Space Research of Brazil on November 30, the damage to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil has reached its highest level in 12 years.
Between July 2019 and August 2020, the area of deforested in the Amazon rainforest reached 11,088 square kilometers. Compared with the same period, it increased by 9.6%, the largest in the same period since 2008.
The total area of the Amazon rainforest is about 5.5 million square kilometers. This rainforest spans several South American countries, more than half of which are located in Brazil.
