February 2 The Brazilian Federal Parliament elected the new Speaker of the Senate and House of Representatives.
Senator Rodrigo Pacheco of the Minas Gerais Democratic Party and Aragos State Progressive Party Representative Arthur Lira were elected as Speaker of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively. Both of them served two-year terms.
That night, the 44-year-old Paszeko defeated Simone Tebet, a senator from the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party of Mato Grosso do Sul, 57-21, and was elected as the new Senate without any suspense.
There were originally five candidates for the Senate election, but three people withdrew before the vote. Of the 81 senators, 3 did not vote. Paszeko won by more than half of the votes in the first round.
Paszeko is a lawyer who graduated from the Department of Law of the Catholic University of Minas Gerais.
He was a member of the Democratic Movement Party of Brazil in 2014 and became a Democratic Senator after 2018.
In the election of Speaker of the House of Representatives, nine candidates participated in the competition.
Lila received 302 votes, far higher than 145 votes from Representative Baleia Rossi from the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party in São Paulo, and more than half of the 505 congressional seats. He also won the first round of voting.
Lela, 51 years old, graduated from the law major of the Federal University of Aragos.
She is a businessman and lawyer. He has been a representative of the state of Aragos since 1999.
