Reuters reported on December 12 that the Indonesian government said in a statement on Saturday that Tesla, a US car manufacturer, will send a delegation to Indonesia next month to discuss potential investment in its electric vehicle supply chain.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Minister of Maritime and Investment Coordination Luhut Pandjatan talked with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday to discuss “investment opportunities for Tesla, an electric vehicle company, in Indonesia”, the report said.
Musk said that he planned to provide a “long-term and huge contract” as long as the nickel mining was “efficient and environmentally friendly”.
Previously, Joko Widodo had promoted Indonesia’s nickel reserves on many occasions and hoped that Indonesia could become the largest lithium battery producer.
