May 3 2021, Lebanese President Aoun presided over a meeting of the Lebanese delegation to the Maritime Border Negotiations between Lebanon and Israel , attended by the Commander of the Lebanese Army , the Lebanese State News Agency reported .
The meeting discussed developments since the suspension of negotiations last December and preparations for the resumption of negotiations. Aoun stressed that maritime boundaries should be amended on the basis of international law and Lebanon’s interest in the exploitation of natural resources in the exclusive economic zone.
It is reported that the Lebanese-Israeli maritime delimitation negotiations will resume on the 4th.
On 14 October last year, the first round of talks was launched in Naqurah, southern Lebanon, with a view to laying the groundwork for joint development of offshore energy by Lebanon and Israel. Under the mediation of the United Nations and the United States, the two sides held four rounds of talks, mainly around lebanon and Israel disputed, an area of about 860 square kilometers of triangular waters.
In December 2020, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Caretaker Government of Lebanon, Mr. Wahba, announced that negotiations on maritime delimitation had been suspended because israel had refused to discuss the new Lebanese proposal.
