Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on the 14th, the Syrian side refused to accept the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) recently issued a report on the chemical weapons incident in the northwestern Syrian city of Sarakib, and strongly condemned this.
The statement said the report contained false conclusions, the investigation team used untrustworthy sources, did not visit the alleged incident site on the ground, and did not personally sample. The report concluded that the OPCW and its investigative team were “another scandal”.
The statement stressed that Syria firmly rejects the use of chemical weapons by any party at any time and any place. Syria does not possess chemical weapons, which has not been used before and is now impossible to use. The Syrian side believes that the use of such weapons is incompatible with its moral and legal obligations.
Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, the Syrian town of Duma, the city of Sarakib and other locations are said to have carried out chemical attacks. The OPCW issued a report following an investigation into the incident. In reports released in 2020 and in the middle of this month, the OPCW claimed that Syrian government forces had used chemical weapons at the sites.
