Spokesperson for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council: What qualifications do “poor students” in the democracy class have to be “teachers”

by YCPress

A spokesman for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council issued a statement on December 23 that the United States and a few other Western countries have made their own democracy in a mess, but they have put on a “teacher” posture, which is really ridiculous to comment on Hong Kong’s democratic development!

The spokesman said that in recent years, the chaos of democracy in the United States has made the world see the hypocrisy, ugly and weakness of American democracy clearly: the checks and balances of power have alienated into veto politics, so that the federal government has been shut down repeatedly; the election process is like a “boxing match”, causing sharp opposition between political parties, serious social tearing up, and even the non-recognition of presidential elections. The farce of occupying Congress with the results; politicians are keen to make love, do not care about the long-term interests of the country and the immediate well-being of the people, and even use the epidemic as a political tool, resulting in the tragedy of more than 50 million people infected and more than 800,000 people losing their lives under the conditions of the most advanced and richest medical resources; human rights are Shouting, but in reality, there is no real guarantee: ethnic minorities suffer from systematic discrimination, the polarization between rich and poor is increasing, and hundreds of people die of shooting every year. Surveys show that the American people have created a serious crisis of confidence in their own democracy, and many countries no longer regard American democracy as a “model” worth emulating. The United States’ own democracy is so unbearable. How can it still have the face to give advice to others?!

The speaker stressed that democracy is not the patent of any country, but the rights of peoples. Democracy that conforms to its own reality and can solve problems is true democracy and good democracy. The Basic Law of Hong Kong has paved the way for the gradual development of democracy according to the actual situation of Hong Kong. However, in the past period of time, some people in Hong Kong society have blindly followed American democracy, and hostile forces inside and outside Hong Kong have taken advantage of the loopholes in the electoral system to challenge the bottom line of the principle of “one country, two systems” and impact the constitutional order. Endangering national security and engaging in opposing confrontations have led to increased social tearing, rampant populism, rampant anarchism, and the spread of the trend of “Hong Kong independence” has led to an endless political stubbornness and political turmoil in Hong Kong, and the difficult economic and people’s livelihood problems cannot be solved, which ultimately caused the majority of residents to suffer.

The spokesman said that the central government reviewed the situation, made decisive decisions, and improved Hong Kong’s electoral system in accordance with the law, precisely to push Hong Kong’s democratic development back on track. In this Legislative Council election, the advantages of the new electoral system have been fully reflected. Compared with the past, candidates are no longer radical, competitive and eye-catching, but ideas, political platforms and abilities. The debate field is no longer attacking and slandering each other, but focusing on people’s livelihood issues such as land and housing, transportation, education and medical care, elderly safety and other issues, and Hong Kong’s development issues such as the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. According to polls, 70.8% of the respondents believe that the new Legislative Council can better safeguard the overall interests of Hong Kong society; 72.8% of the respondents expressed confidence that the new Legislative Council members will perform their duties in accordance with the law and promote good governance. Facts have fully proved that as long as “one country, two systems” is fully and accurately implemented and the development path is chosen from Hong Kong’s actual situation, Hong Kong’s democratic road will become wider and wider.

The spokesman concluded that it was time for a few countries such as the United States to wake up. You are not democratic “top students”, let alone qualified to be “teachers”. The Chinese people have never been more confident in the socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics and the development of a democratic system in line with Hong Kong’s reality, as they are today. We firmly believe that Hong Kong’s democratic development under “one country, two systems” will achieve new successes and provide new examples of democratic practice.
